It usually begins the same way.
Someone checks the weather forecast over breakfast and announces that the day will be perfect. Twenty-four degrees. Sunshine from morning until evening. Plans quickly take shape. A swim. A picnic. Maybe a boat trip and dinner outdoors.
A few hours later, dark clouds appear from nowhere.

Between the long sunny days come those unexpected evenings when staying indoors feels surprisingly inviting. The rain settles over the city, candles are lit a little earlier than expected, and kitchens begin to fill with aromas that feel just as comforting as they taste.

A warm tray of lasagna seems perfectly suited to those moments. Not because it is fashionable or complicated, but because it offers something simple and generous. Something that brings people together around a table while the weather continues its little experiment outside.
Perhaps it is a classic ragù that has spent hours gently simmering. Perhaps it is a vegetarian version filled with seasonal vegetables, fresh herbs, and carefully selected local ingredients. Whatever the filling, the idea remains the same: layers of flavour built slowly, patiently, and with care.
And maybe that is why lasagna feels so at home in July.
No month shifts quite as easily between beach days and rain showers. Between sandals and sweaters. Between ice cream in the sunshine and something warm straight from the oven.
Learning to appreciate both is part of the Swedish summer experience.
So the next time the skies above Stockholm decide to change the plans, perhaps it is worth embracing it.
The rain will pass.
