11 AUGUST 2026

Midnattsloppet: Lasagna After Dark.

One of the things we keep discovering about Stockholm is that the city never really runs out of reasons to gather.

There is always something happening: a food market in a square, a concert by the water, a neighbourhood celebration, a cultural evening, a small pop-up that becomes a memory, or an event that makes you see a familiar part of the city in a completely different way.

For us, this is one of the reasons Stockholm feels so special.

It is a city with a strong rhythm. People work, cycle, swim, meet friends, go into the forest, eat outside whenever the weather allows it, and somehow still find the energy to fill the streets with life. We feel grateful to be building Lasagnariet here, in a city that is so curious, active and full of movement.

And every August, one event makes Stockholm move in a particularly magical way: Midnattsloppet.

On 15 August 2026, Södermalm will once again become the stage for one of Stockholm’s most loved running events. Thousands of runners will take over the streets at night, surrounded by music, samba rhythms, cheering spectators, torches and that very special late-summer energy that only Stockholm can create.

Midnattsloppet is not simply a race. It is a night-time folk festival.

The event has been lighting up Stockholm since 1982, and this year runners can choose between 5 km, 10 km and 21 km routes. The start takes place around Ringvägen, with the finish line at Hornsgatan, right in the heart of Södermalm. There are also races for children and young people, as well as Glada Midnattsloppet, an inclusive 2 km event for people with cognitive disabilities. It is a beautiful reminder that movement, celebration and community can belong to everyone.

Imagine it: a warm August evening, the city beginning to glow in the dark, runners gathering in their race shirts, friends waiting along the route, music echoing between the buildings and thousands of people moving through Södermalm together.

The organisers describe the event as a running party, and it is easy to understand why. Around 35,000 runners are expected to bring the streets to life, with spectators, music and the shared energy of a city cheering people forward.

For us at Lasagnariet, this is the kind of event that immediately starts a dream.

We imagine a small food truck parked somewhere close to the celebration next year. The evening air becoming cooler after midnight. Runners crossing the finish line tired, happy and full of adrenaline. Friends and families waiting nearby. And then, the smell of something warm coming from the oven.

A tray of homemade lasagna.

Not fast food in the usual sense. Not something anonymous and rushed. But real Italian food, cooked from scratch, prepared with care and ready to bring comfort after a long run through the city.

There is something beautiful about the idea of serving warm lasagna at the end of a night race.

Running is about preparation. Weeks of training, early mornings, tired legs, small improvements, discipline and excitement. Cooking is not so different. A good lasagna also begins long before it reaches the oven. It starts with chopping vegetables, making a sauce slowly, preparing pasta, tasting, adjusting and building every layer with patience.

Both are about the joy of the process.

At Lasagnariet, we believe that a takeaway in Stockholm can be more than a quick solution between one place and another. It can be a moment of comfort. A warm meal after a long day. Food that feels homemade, even when you take it with you. Food with Italian roots, made with Swedish raw materials whenever possible, and prepared from scratch with respect for every ingredient.

After 5, 10 or even 21 kilometres, we can think of few things better than a warm plate of lasagna.

Maybe a classic Lasagna alla Bolognese, slow-cooked and full of flavour. Maybe a vegetarian lasagna with seasonal vegetables. Maybe something inspired by late summer in Sweden: roasted mushrooms, Swedish cheese, herbs and vegetables at their best. Something generous, comforting and made to be shared.

This year, we will be there in spirit, following the lights, the music and the energy around Södermalm.

And next year? Who knows.

Perhaps you will find Lasagnariet at Midnattsloppet, serving warm layers of pasta, sauce and love to runners, friends and night walkers after one of Stockholm’s most joyful evenings.

Because after a city runs together, it deserves to eat together too.
